Homeopathy is an effective system of healing which stimulates the body’s own healing mechanisms into action towards cure.

The system looks at the individual and not at the disease.  People react differently to the same illness, homeopathy chooses a remedy that will match the unique way that a person responds to an illness, i.e. the symptoms that he/she puts out. So that any number of people suffering from arthritis, could each get a different remedy based on the unique way they experience the arthritis.

How Homeopathy works

Homeopathy is based on the Law of Similars.  “Let like be cured by like”.  A remedy is chosen that produces the same particular set of symptoms that the person with an illness is exhibiting.  If a remedy can cause a high fever with dry heat and thirst, then when a person is ill with these symptoms this remedy would act curatively to restore health.

Homeopathy comes from the Greek, “homo” meaning similar and “pathos” meaning suffering.

The remedies are given in infinitesimally small doses.  The ability of the remedy to stimulate the bodies healing mechanism is greatly enhanced in these smaller doses.

Symptoms are the bodies way of trying to rebalance once there is a dis-ease present.  Symptoms are not the disease.  Treating the symptoms in such a way as to make them disappear, does not mean the disease/or disturbance has been cured.  This would be like killing the messenger because we do not like the message he has delivered.  Homeopathy aims to treat the underlying dis-ease, once this is done, the symptoms are no longer necessary and they will cease.

WHAT THE HOMEOPATH NEEDS TO KNOW

The selection of the homeopathic remedy is based on the totality of symptoms that the patient presents.  Any changes from the normal range of health are considered.  Any physical symptoms,  emotional states, mental issues.  For example in a case of ear ache.  All the symptoms relating to the ear, pain, discharges, discolouration, etc. would be considered.  Also the persons emotional state and mental state, if they have changed from the persons normal condition.  Is the person weeping from the pain, or needing more comforting, do they want to be alone with their pain and don’t want company, is their concentration affected, etc.  All of these symptoms would be taken into consideration in choosing the remedy that will cure the individual.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Because each person is unique in their expression of their ill state, their response to the remedy will be equally individual keeping in line with the individuals normal pattern of behaviour.  The first response could be more energy is available, gentle improvement or a possible healing crisis that follows with improvement.
